VENUE: LE STADE DE VAGRANTS, Luton Sixth Form
2-1 WIN Vs CHESHUNT
This game saw the visit of joint league leaders Cheshunt to Luton Sixth Form, which has lately been renamed le stade de vagrants. After a few weeks off due to bad weather, Luton Vagrants were able to field a full strength line-up, against the title chasing away team.
Luton Vagrants were able to welcome back Dan McKinnon after his injury in December and his presence in the midfield was key due to the competitive nature of the first half. With a solid defence on display, the home side were able to prevent the away side in the attacking third of the pitch enabling Luton Vagrants to apply pressure in the opposing end for long periods.
This continued pressure forward led to the opening goal of the game, where an intelligent run and cut back from Neal Slocombe left his fellow centre forward Dave Neale unmarked to smash the ball past the helpless Cheshunt keeper.
With the home side in front, Cheshunt were able to respond quickly from going behind in the game by capitalising on a defensive error to make the scores level. An array of fine reaction saves by home keeper Rob Clough was enough to keep the sides level.
As the half came close to an end, Luton Vagrants were able to enforce a penalty corner opportunity after some great movement from Kevin Abranches and Ross Edwards. This vital opportunity in front of goal was expertly taken by Martyn Dunn who fired the ball in after his initial strike was blocked.
This meant that the home side finished the first half with a 2-1 lead and they continued to play out the second half with great team spirt to seal an important and vital victory.
Final Score: Luton Vagrants 2 Cheshunt 1 (HOME WIN)
Scorers: Dave Neale and Martyn Dunn
